Lanzarote is only a small island in the Canary Islands, so it can be explored quite easily, and with so many attractions available to visit.
This holiday destination has so much to offer all holiday makers and with many reasonable hotels in Lanzarote available, it's a great time to visit the island.
One of the most interesting places to visit on the island is Timanfaya National Park. This is where the Montanas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) can be seen that were created between 1730 and 1736.
It was during this time when more than 100 volcanoes erupted and caused devastation on the island as lava destroyed many of the villages throughout the area. The last eruption was in 1824 but due to the low rain fall that the island receives, and therefore the lack of erosion, the lava debris is still evident at the roadsides surrounding the volcanoes.
Many visitors travel the winding winds to the now National Park that houses the volcanoes so that they can witness for themselves the unique landscape that is often compared to the planet Mars due to its sparse and red-coloured landscape. There are also very few plants in the area as it has proved to be too hostile for their growth, however the National Park has recently starting to see some slight improvements. As a result of this, any walks that people wish to do in the Park have to be accompanied by someone who works in the park so that none of the plant life that has managed to grow will be disturbed.
Whil
t at the park, you will be able to watch some of the demonstrations that take place that show you just how hot underneath the ground you are walking on is. In fact, temperatures underground reach between 400 and 600 degrees. To prove this, dry brush is thrown into a hole in the ground and visitors watch as it catches fire almost immediately, another demonstration is when water is poured into a hole in the ground which then erupts moments later in the form of steam that reaches meters into the air. This resembles a mini geyser.
One of the most impressive and unique things you can witness is the El Diablo. As well as its views over the volcanic landscape, it also offers diners the unique experience of eating food that has been cooked using the heat emitting from the active volcano.
As well as all of the attractions on offer on the island, there are also many beautiful beaches that all have their own sand colour, some are black and others are very pale, sandy beaches. The hotels that surround these beaches are all low rise and with beautiful views of the crystal clear ocean. Whether you're looking for cheap hotels in Lanzarote or more luxurious ones, you can find a wide variety of them in the more touristy areas.
